(Updated) Victorian COVID-19 AstraZeneca Supplementary eLearning

Purpose: This supplementary training has been developed to support vaccine providers to confidently deliver the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to people under 60 years. This includes a revised consent process, which was updated April 2021.

Background: On 17 June 2021, the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) released revised recommendations that COMIRNATY COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer) is the preferred COVID-19 vaccine for people aged under 60 years. People aged under 60 years can choose to receive AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine if the benefits of receiving this vaccine outweigh the risks and the individual provides informed consent.

In response to the revised recommendations, the Victorian Department of Health has updated the COVID-19 AstraZeneca supplementary training package for the vaccination workforce in Victoria.

About this supplementary training package: The training package allows all health professionals involved in the administration of COVID-19 vaccines (including those providing advice and not administering vaccine) to understand and have confidence in the consent process, recommendations and contraindications of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in adults under 60 years.

Pre-requisites: Before completing the Victorian COVID-19 AstraZeneca Supplementary training package, all participants must have already completed the following:

This training package is to be completed in addition to all existing training requirements that apply to the Victorian authorised and emergency authorised workforce. Further information on Victorian training requirements is available at: Victorian COVID-19 Vaccination Guidelines <https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/victorian-covid-19-vaccination-guidelines>

Please note the information presented in this package is correct at the time of publication. As COVID-19 is an evolving disease, the knowledge base is still being developed and some of the information may change. Updates will be made to this program as new information becomes available and will be displayed on this course page.
