    Intradermal injection essentials

Regardless of your experience, this eLearning provides healthcare professionals with the essential foundation knowledge needed when administering intradermal injections. Following its completion, we also recommend appropriate face-to face training to have a go at the practical skills required to perform injections independently. Upon completion you will be able to:
    • select the correct anatomical site for an intradermal injection and explain the rationale for this choice
    • identify appropriate equipment for an intradermal injection
    • outline the steps of correct intradermal injection technique
    • determine when an intradermal injection should, or should not, be repeated
    • understand the common and expected reactions that may occur following intradermal injection and formulate clear and effective aftercare advice
    • explain how to apply safe practice principles, including infection control and documentation.
Please allow 30 minutes to complete this course. You must achieve 100% on the quiz in order to pass this eLearning. If you do not pass after 3 attempts, we recommend you review the course before attempting the quiz again.

Shoulder Injury Related to Vaccine Administration (SIRVA)

SIRVA is a rare but serious complication following inadvertent administration of a vaccine too high in the deltoid, or into the shoulder joint.

This eLearning has been designed for all healthcare professionals who are involved in the administration of vaccines. It can also act as a resource for anyone caring for a person with a confirmed or suspected SIRVA. It provides an opportunity to refreshconsolidate and evaluate immunisation knowledge and technical skills.

Upon completion you will be able to:

    • identify what SIRVA is and how to prevent it with correct vaccine administration
    • identify how SIRVA is diagnosed and treated
    • recognise anatomical landmarks used to identify correct injection sites
    • identify how to report SIRVA.

Please allow 30 minutes to complete this course. You must achieve 100% on the quiz in order to pass this eLearning. You have unlimited attempts.

    Use of multi-dose vials

Multi-dose vials contain more than one dose of a medicine/vaccine in a single vial. Multi-dose vials are more economical, take less time to manufacture and require less storage space than single-use preparations. However, there is an increased risk of infection control breaches associated with their use.
    • This eLearning is designed for all healthcare professionals who are involved in the administration of vaccines to demonstrate the safe preparation and storage of multi-dose vials. It provides the opportunity to refresh, consolidate and evaluate immunisation knowledge and technical skills.
    • Upon completion you will be able to:
      • correctly prepare vaccines from multi-dose vials that require reconstitution
      • correctly prepare vaccines from multi-dose vials that do not require reconstitution
      • identify the principles of infection prevention and control required when accessing multi-dose vials
      • identify the importance of labelling and storage of multi-dose vials
      • understand the difference between an expiry date and a use by date.
Please allow 30 minutes to complete this course. You must achieve 100% on the quiz in order to pass this eLearning. You have unlimited attempts.

    Vaccination Procedures

This eLearning is designed for all healthcare professionals who are involved in the administration of vaccines. It is an opportunity to refresh, consolidate and evaluate immunisation knowledge and technical skills. Upon completion, you will be able to:
    • identify the principles of the cold chain
    • identify the importance of pre-immunisation screening and consent
    • describe a contraindication to vaccination
    • identify the correct process for administering vaccines to infants, children and adults
    • understand the requirements of reporting to immunisation registers
    • identify and manage adverse events following immunisation (AEFIs)
    • understand "No Jab, No Pay" and "No Jab, No Play" legislation.
Please allow 90 minutes to complete this course. You must achieve 100% on the quiz in order to pass this eLearning. You have unlimited attempts.

Vaccine Errors: Prevention, management and open disclosure

From time to time, vaccine administration errors can and do occur. Effective and prompt management of these clinical scenarios is vital for the prevention of any future administration errors. The way that errors are communicated to those impacted is also important for maintaining confidence in the vaccination process and to encourage uptake of future vaccines.   This eLearning has been designed for all healthcare professionals who are involved in the administration of vaccines. It provides the opportunity to refresh, consolidate and evaluate immunisation knowledge and technical skills.   Upon completion you will be able to:
    • identify the processes that reduce the risk of vaccine-related errors occurring
    • identify the necessary steps and management if a vaccine error occurs
    • recognise the importance of an open disclosure discussion and providing support to all individuals involved
    • identify the underpinning concepts of open disclosure and the important steps involved in the process.
Please allow 30 minutes to complete this course. You must achieve 100% on the quiz in order to pass this eLearning. You have unlimited attempts.
